Optimize your email marketing campaigns with SMTP and MasterBase®.

Among the options that a company has to communicate with its customers are the messages that are sent in response to an action of those customers in an environment of the company's environment.
SMTP email marketing

This type of shipment is called transactional courier, since it constitutes a transaction between the two parties:

1) The customer performs an action and 2) the company responds to that action by sending a message.

Some examples of transactional messages are:

  • Password recovery
  • Sending of account statements
  • Confirmation of purchase or shipment of products
  • Sending of warranty policies, invoices, purchase receipts, etc.

Transactional messaging

Transactional messages have a high opening rate, because they are messages that the customer is waiting for, so he is attentive to their arrival and opens them in a fairly short period of time.

Therefore, they are a great opportunity to include in them some calls to action, as well as additional offers, that nurture the relationship between the parties.

To send them, companies usually have internal processes that trigger these messages in response to the triggering action. And they are, therefore, handled by personnel trained in this type of process.

However, the main obstacle faced by companies is the lack of traceability of these shipments and the lack of metrics that allow them to analyze their performance.

In other words, these are shipments over which they have little visibility and control.

In many cases, moreover, they do not have the safeguards that allow them to comply with the regulations and technical protocols for sending messages, a situation that directly and negatively affects their deliverability rates.

MasterBase® Platform

In its Email Marketing platform, MasterBase® provides an answer to these tracking and statistics needs, through the unique sending functionality. Our clients can send these mailings through Web Services or through SMTP mailings.

In this article we specifically address the procedure to be followed to send these messages via SMTP.

What is SMTP sending

An SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the process of sending e-mails through a mail server using the SMTP protocol.

This protocol is the Internet standard for email transmission and is used to send messages from an email client (such as Outlook or Gmail) to a mail server, and from one mail server to another.

Benefits of SMTP sending

  1. ReliabilitySMTP ensures that messages are sent consistently and reach their destination.
  2. ScalabilityAllows sending large volumes of emails without compromising efficiency.
  3. SecurityProvides mechanisms for authentication and encryption, ensuring that messages are not intercepted.
  4. TraceabilityTracking: Allows tracking of each email sent, providing detailed statistics on opens and clicks.

Basic SMTP sending process

  1. Establishment of connection: The mail client (or an application) establishes a connection to the SMTP server on ports 25 or 587.
  2. Exchange of messages: The client and server exchange a series of commands and responses to negotiate the transmission of the mail. This includes the identification of the sender, the recipients and the content of the message.
  3. Sending the message: Once the message has been negotiated and accepted, the SMTP server transmits the mail to the recipient's server.
  4. Delivery to the addresseeThe recipient's server receives the mail and stores it in the corresponding mailbox, from where the recipient can retrieve it using a mail client, via protocols such as IMAP or POP3, or view it via the web, if the recipient's mail provider provides this option.
